Scratch Cards used to fight gun crime

Gun-related crime affects many people around the world. In most places it is an urban crime that is associated with neighborhoods of low-income families and tends to have an adverse effect on entire families and communities as gun-crime victims are not just the poor souls getting shot but also their relatives and the relatives of the perpetrators.

Now a new initiative launched this week using the combined powers of a cool new website and a scratch card game is hoping to generate more awareness and help young people and their families’ live gun-free lives.

The Though Call scratch cards are aimed to alert young people to the perils of gun crime and direct their attention to the a new interactive website that aims to explain the drawbacks of gun crime and offer young people viable solutions for resisting and fighting gun crime in their communities.

In addition the website provides recorded testimonies of young convicts jailed for gun crimes and testimonies of their relatives and victims. The site also has contact information to organizations that can offer help.

The Tough Call initiative is part of Merseyside Police in Liverpool, CitySafe, and The Safer Knowsley Partnership. It hopes to appeal to young people via channels they are comfortable with such as scratch card games and fun to use websites.
