The Good and the Bad in this week’s Scratch Cards Stories

Everything is this world has the power to be used for good or for evil and scratch cards are no different. Some people use scratch cards as their weekly light gambling treat, while others steal them in the process of committing crimes and later on try to profit from them.

Here is an example of two completely different stories that were published on the same day on opposite sides of the world, both involving winning scratchcards but offer a very different story as to how they were obtained and how they affected the winners.

The first story comes to us from the state of Illinois in US and was published in the Eastern Illinois University Paper. It tells the winning scratchcard story of student Will Gregorich who ended up buying a scratch-off ticket which won him $25,000, after a series of unpredictable events that led to him having some spare cash so he was able to purchase the $30 scratch card together with a friend.

Gregorich will be required to wait four to six weeks before receiving his winnings but is already planning a trip across the Atlantic Ocean to visit England so he can make his dream come true of attending a live English Premier League football match.

The other story comes from Ireland and was published in the Irish Herald. It tells the story of Garret Guinan (25) who is a convicted criminal with over 30 convictions for traffic violations and drug offences.

Guinan had robbed a local convenience store at knifepoint. The store clerk on shift at the time saw the knife and ran to the back storage room and watched Guinan rob the store on the security cameras. The clerk gave a detailed description of Guinan and informed police that he stole a brand new scratchcards book.

The following day Guinan went to another convenience store to cash some of his winning tickets. This was reported to the police and the clerk from the robbed store identified him on CCTV footage going into the second store and cashing his winnings. The Dublin Criminal Court did everybody a favor by sending Guinan to spend a year behind bars.
